Shoe Stickers – Children’s Footwear Must-Haves
There appear to be two versions of the children’s nursery rhyme, known in the UK as “Diddle, diddle, dumpling, my son John, went to bed with his stockings on” and in the USA as “Deedle, deedle, dumpling, my son John, went to bed with his trousers on”.
One Shoe Is Off
However, whether you selected “diddle” or “deedle”, or whether or not that son, John, went to bed and fell asleep wearing his stockings or trousers instead of removing them before doing retiring to bed, the next line of the rhyme remains constant in both countries’ children’s literature.
Both versions agree that this particular John had “one shoe off and one (the other) shoe on”. Since stickers were not yet invented, there was no mention of whether his footwear featured his name.
Where Is It?
As is usually the case with children, our John was probably too tired to remove both his shoes after a day’s active fun and games in the company of his peers. He probably had no idea that the footwear which he’d kicked off might have landed under his bed, much to the frustration of his mom, who might be unable to find the missing shoe next morning, when she attempted to see to it that he was properly attired for the day.
One of a Pair
The rhyme about John’s inadvertent neglect of his actions and belongings illustrates how easily children misplace their possessions, particularly those that come in pairs, such as socks, gloves and shoes. To parents, searching for one of a pair is almost worse than missing both items all at once.
After all, what can one do with a single shoe, apart from becoming ever angrier, more impatient and increasingly frustrated, emotions which long ago John’s parents may well have experienced when unable to locate the second one?
Similar scenarios are still familiar to today’s moms and dads, especially once their young ones start attending preschool classes or go to “big” school, well-equipped but without clearly visible identifying stickers on each item of apparel.
Meticulously Packed and Attired
Although shopping for and packing their school bags with all the prescribed books, stationery and lunch boxes, and wearing the required school apparel is attended to meticulously at home, what happens to such possessions once at school, seems to be of lesser consequence to youngsters.
Young children are drawn to what’s happening around them. That is - until they get home again to find that one item of footwear, devoid of a sticker, is missing. Having only one of a pair is totally futile.
Stickers Keep Pairs of Shoes Intact
Fortunately, Labels4Schools have come up with an innovative, yet affordable and convenient solution that helps parents and their children to keep pairs of shoes together and intact, as such, (in matching pairs).
Our footwear stickers are hard-wearing, self-laminated vinyl labels, which should be stuck to the arch area of each clean and dry insole. A clear waterproof adhesive layer is placed over the black-on-white sticker to seal it in place effectively. Despite their extreme durability, these circular, waterproof stickers are exceptionally thin, thus avoiding irritation to or friction on sensitive underfoot skin.
Labels4School’s footwear stickers go a long way in preventing the accidental, permanent loss of a shoe, sandal, trainer, rugby boot or flip-flop. With a personalised Labels4School shoe sticker in place, identification of the owner and return of the footwear is as easy as pie.
Virtually every school has a lost property storage facility, from which misplaced items, ideally marked with a sticker or label for easy identification, may be reclaimed and recovered. Voila – the pair and its owner may be reunited.
Save yourself time, money, effort and unnecessary aggravation. Get your shoe stickers now, before another pair becomes a separate, useless single unit, like the one left on John’s foot when he went to bed.
